Which Aviation Headset Is Best?

When any pilot begins their journey, they are faced with choosing a headset.

This can be difficult when there are so many options!

Here are a few of the common headsets our students have at Parrish Aviation, along with the pros & cons.

In no particular order..

#1 Bose A20 - $1,095

https://www.bose.com/en_us/products/headphones/aviation_headsets/a20-aviation-headset.html?

Pro’s

  1. You won’t have to upgrade down the line.

  2. Noise cancellation & bluetooth

  3. TSO Certified

Con’s

  1. Expensive

#2 Lightspeed Zulu/Sierra - $850/$650

www.lightspeedaviation.com

Pro’s

  1. Noise cancellation & bluetooth for less cost than Bose A20

  2. Great customer service for repairs

Con’s

  1. Not TSO Certified

Their website effectively says that they meet the same standards but don’t agree with the red tape that pushes higher costs to the consumer. Some airlines require TSO certified headsets for the pilots.

#3 David Clark - $275

https://www.mypilotstore.com/mypilotstore/sep/644

Pro’s

  1. Much lower cost than Bose or Lightspeed

  2. Classic headset

  3. TSO Certification

Con’s

  1. No noise cancellation or Bluetooth

They do sell more expensive models with these features.

In Conclusion

There are other great headsets as well but these are what most of our students use here at Parrish Aviation.

Hopefully this helps with your decision making process as you look at headsets!

It really comes down to how much you want to spend, if you plan to go to the airlines, if you want noise cancelling/bluetooth, and then looks of course.
