Glider FAQ’s

  • The best way to prepare is to read the Glider Flying Handbook and the Ximango Flight Manual.

    Ximango Flight Manual

  • Our glider training utilizes the self-launch method, to fly a glider with the aerotow or ground launch methods you would need an additional endorsement after the checkride.

  • The minimum age to solo a glider is 14.

  • The glider add-on training takes 3-5 days for most people.

  • We fly out of the Dallas Executive Airport (KRBD), which is a Class D.

With an engine and tailwheel landing gear, we can operate normally at an airport and then turn into a glider once we have launched to a suitable area.

This also allows for much more repetition per hour of flight time than one would normally achieve in a pure glider.

  • If you have your commercial pilot certificate already, we recommend skipping straight to the commercial add-on.

  • We think so! Many of the aviation legends flew gliders as well as the military.

The soaring and energy management, confidence in an engine-out scenario, deeper dive into soaring conditions and weather, as well as greater emphasis on coordination all contribute to making a better pilot.
